Manchester United has agreed and confirmed to the signing of Martin Dubravka

Goalkeeper Martin Dubravka has joined Manchester United on a season-long loan from Newcastle United,

The Slovakia international has played over 125 games in the Premier League in the past five seasons, and he has 29 caps for his country.

The goalkeeper had played 130 times for Newcastle in all competitions, keeping 37 clean sheets in the process.

Martin traveled to Manchester on Tuesday for his medical Screening after Newcastle relented on requesting a £6m fee now, but an obligation to pay will kick in after Dubravka hits a set amount of appearances.

Martin Dubravka said: ‘To be joining Manchester United is a special moment in my career and I can’t wait to get started, and help the group achieve its ambitions.’

Dubravka had asked Newcastle to let him go after United’s approach last week.

He has become understudy to Nick Pope following his arrival from Burnley and wanted the chance to move to Old Trafford where he can challenge David de Gea and Tom Heaton.

Being viewed as one of the best goalkeepers in the League he had cemented himself as the number one at St James’ Park.

“Fernandes is a player who really stood out” Ex Manchester United midfielder Chadwick gives praises

Former Manchester United midfielder Luke Chadwick has lavished praise on star midfielder Bruno Fernandes for his match-winning performance in his team’s 1-0 win against Southampton on August 27.

Fernandes, who joined the Red Devils from Sporting CP for £47 million in January 2020, has established himself as the team’s fulcrum over the past two seasons. But he recently came under fire for his underwhelming performances at the start of the season.

After faltering in his team’s back-to-back defeats to Brighton & Hove Albion and Brentford, the Portuguese shone in Manchester United’s 2-1 win over Liverpool last weekend. He carried the momentum and scored a precise volley at the St. Mary’s Stadium on Saturday.

Speaking to Caught Offside, Chadwick pointed out how Fernandes is currently thriving on the responsibility of the captain’s armband. He labeled the Portuguese midfielder as “a winner”. He said:

“Fernandes is a player who really stood out, he looks like he’s buzzing to have the captain’s armband. He has put in two really good performances since replacing Harry Maguire as captain.”

He continued:

“When a player’s given the captain’s armband, particularly at a club like United, it’s a massive responsibility. You get the sense with Bruno that he craves that responsibility and wants to be the main man. Since he has been given the armband, he has drastically improved.”

Chadwick added:

“If United can get Fernandes back to his best then that decision from Erik ten Hag could end up being really important. He’s a winner, he wants to score, he wants to assist, and he has really raised his game. If we can get him back to that kind of form he showed when he first joined the club, it’s going to be a massive plus for the team moving forward.”

Manchester United, who have six points from four Premier League matches, will next travel to Leicester City on September 1.

Karim Benzema wins UEFA men’s player of the year award

Karim Benzema has been voted the UEFA Player of the Year and few will argue that he deserves it.

Perhaps only Real Madrid teammate Thibaut Courtois could have arrived with a serious argument to keep Benzema from winning. The French forward scored 15 goals in the Champions League on the way to the trophy and was crucial in all of their knockout ties.

Speaking after the award was presented to him, he told Sport that the best moment was their first comeback, against Paris Saint-Germain.

“The best moment of that Champions League was the return leg against PSG, we were able to come back thanks to the support of our fans.”

He also had some kind words for his manager Carlo Ancelotti, who picked up the prize for Coach of the Year.

“Ancelotti is the best manager in the world, he gives me a lot of confidence.”

Benzema will now look forward to a series of awards with a strong hope that he can take all of the individual prizes this year. The Frenchman scored 44 goals last season and was the most essential player in the most successful side.

To win it at the age of 34 would be testament to Benzema’s persistence and professionalism.
